Loitering Pieces

Loitering Pieces

The Loitering Pieces are a series of compositions intended to be performed in a public space which contains an anti-loitering sound system. These systems, which emit sharp high-frequency tones to deter young people and homeless people from gathering in certain areas, have become increasingly common in urban environments across Europe and North America.

This particular performance focuses on a pair of loudspeakers installed above the south portal of l’Église Saint Eustache, facing Les Halles in central Paris.

Some resulting materials from the Les Halles version of the Loitering Pieces were presented at Confort Mental (Paris, FR) on June 19th, 2026, and could not have been possible without help and insight from Elçin Bahçeci, Nelson Roubert, Juan Amaya, Mete Sahin, Jakub Kopeć, Toby Ryan, and Bill Dietz.
